Church Life

St John Bosco is a busy and active community and behind the scenes there are a number of voluntary groups which help and advise the priest with some of the pastoral and financial aspects of the running and the upkeep of our church.

Church Life includes information on the varying ministries and roles of the voluntary groups as well as information on our Repository shop which is situated inside the church entrance.

Repository

The Repository shop can be accessed from the Church porch, and is open before and after weekend Masses for the sale of religious items. Giving someone a Christian gift is a simple way of spreading the faith, providing comfort at a difficult time and sharing in joy. Among the stock available are cards, rosaries, crucifixes, Bibles, votive candles, medals and statuettes.
Volunteers to man the shop are always needed.

Flower Arrangers

The church owes its beautiful floral decorations to a dedicated group of  flower arrangers. They also organise the Christmas manger, and create displays for events of particular significance – such as the Advent wreath and the Pentecost flame.

Cleaners

The church needs to be as inviting and welcoming as possible when worshippers arrive for Mass. It owes its neatness and tidiness to a small group of volunteers who give their time to dusting, washing and polishing each week. They are always happy for more help.

Hospitality after Mass

Coffee, tea, squash and biscuits are available in the church centre each Sunday after 10.00am Mass, and each Friday morning after  Mass.
It is an ideal opportunity to meet other members of the parish.
There is a rota for helpers.

Maintenance Team

The Maintenance Team meets every Tuesday, and undertakes any repair work which needs doing in the church. This might involve painting, decorating or fixing drains or heating systems.
The team  also look after the lawns around the church and in the church centre gardens which need to be mown regularly.
If you would be interested in helping or joining the team please contact the parish office.

Finance and Administration Committee

The Finance and Administration Committee monitors the church finances, preparing budgets and annual accounts, and advising the priest on financial matters. The Committee meet regularly throughout the year providing budget updates, dealing with any financial matters and any administration issues.

Safeguarding

The parish safeguarding representative is responsible for implementing the diocesan guidelines for ensuring our community is as safe as possible for children, young people and vulnerable adults. These include the requirement that all people working in ministries involving these groups must provide documentation and submit to police checks. The policy is on display in the Church porch.
